Shut-The-Box is a simple dice game, often a "Pub" game or Party game.
I decided to build one for our family and since it is a fairly small project I thought it was a great excuse to use some fancier wood. So I choose Bloodwood for the sides.
I also thought that this would be a great time to practise learning to Veneer, since the top and bottom of the box would use fairly small sections of plywood. I ordered in some Veneer from Lee Valley Tools (Search "Lee Valley Sequence Matched Veneer") and decided on using Sapele veneer on the top and bottom panels. Unfortunately, Bloodwood veneer was not an option.
Finally, for the playing surface I obtained a piece of (fake) suede, and glued that down to make a soft and extra fancy playing surface.
Putting all this together and I had not only a fun party game, but also an interesting project build that helped me to develop and practise several woodworking skills.
